Abstract: | Various methods interrelate subjective and instrumental measures. The two principal interrelations are correlation and regression analyses. They differ in their fundamental premises. Correlational analysis seeks to show only that a relation exists between two sets of measures. Regression analysis seeks the nature of the relation. Correlational analysis provides information that must be augmented by additional, extrinsic research. In contrast, regression analysis allows for immediate action to modify stimuli in order to induce a desired change. This paper considers both approaches in the light of recent advances in psychophysical measurement. |
