Abstract:The graft copolymerization of butyl acrylate ( BA )onto styrene-buta-diene-styrene block copolymers ( SBS ) was studied by using benzoyl peroxide as initiator. A graft copolymer with SBS as main chains and PBA as branches was synthesized. The mechanism of graft copolymerization of PBA onto SBS was investigated and the structure of the graft copolymers was determined by infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that the 1, 2-and cis-1, 4-polybutadiene segments in SBS were more easily to be grafted than the trans-1,4-polybutadiene segments. It was observed through film manufacturing that the physical properties of the graft copolymer were greatly different from those of PBA/SBS blends.
