Transitional packed bed flow in standpipes |

| Abstract: | A quantitative criterion distinguishing stable from unstable transitional packed bed flow in standpipes is presented. This criterion can be used as an working guideline in actual standpipe operation. A fundamental and simple model based on stress free surface (SFS) theory has been developed. This model also provides a quantitative prediction method for the standpipe voidage. |
