Safe design and use of crane brakes

A significant accident was occurred in a steelworks last year, in which a ladle Was dropped to the ground and the hot steel poured out of it killed more than 30 people. In response to it, this paper points out that braking torque is not the only safe index for crane brakes, outlines demands on the brakes based on crane operation classification, describes common brake structural types and application scope, and coneludes that brakes must be adjusted properly for crane＇s safe operation.
