| Abstract: | The thermal expansion of sodium  -and   '-alumina in thea andc directions has been determined by high temperature X-ray diffractometry using polycrystalline samples. The measured values show that internal stresses as a result of anisotropy in the thermal expansion of the two phases should have little adverse effect on the application of beta-alumina in electrochemical devices. |
