Analysis on characteristics of heavy metal pollution of antimony mine tailings pond

Abstract:In order to clarify the pollution characteristics of heavy metals in antimony tailings and its impact on the surrounding environment in China, the standard index method was used to analyze the main components and heavy metal content of antimony tailings of typical antimony mining enterprises. The results showed that antimony tailings were not classified as hazardous wastes in China, however it is necessary to further determine whether they belong to the second category of the general industrial solid wastes. In addition, the water quality index method was used to evaluate the concentration of heavy metals in the wastewater in the antimony tailings pond, the leachate of the tailings pond and the soil around the tailings pond. The results showed that the highest levels of Sb and As in the waste water and leachate in the tailings pond were 3.09 mg/L and 0.58 mg/L, respectively, which were the main heavy metal pollution factors; the highest As content in the soil around the tailings pond was 998 mg/kg, exceeding the standard of soil environmental construction land by 15.6 times. Therefore, relevant departments should take corresponding measures to strengthen pollution prevention and risk management of antimony tailings ponds. Innovation: It is the first time to collect and analyze the basic data of t of antimony tailings of typical antimony mining enterprises across the country. It is proposed that the generation coefficient of antimony tailings is generally 0.96~0.97 t/t raw ore. According to the pollution data of the antimony mine tailing pond itself and the surrounding environment, the inductive research result puts forward that the main heavy metal pollution factors of the antimony mine tailing pond are Sb, As, and Zn.
