Abstract: | Organic-mineral composites prepared by 121‡C heat treatment of aqueous suspensions of hydroxy-propylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and calcium dibasic phosphate dihydrate, nonstoichiometric hydroxyapatite, or a two-phase calcium phosphate were characterized by IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and chemical analysis with the aim of assessing the reactivity of the inorganic and organic phases. The results demonstrate that, under the experimental conditions used, there is no chemical interaction between the calcium phosphates studied and HPMC. |
