Abstract: | The purpose of this study was to elucidate the clinicopathological significance of p53 overexpression in elderly patients with colorectal cancer. p53 positivity for elderly patients and control was 41% and 57%, respectively. There was a significant difference between these two groups. Regarding the rate of hematogenic metastases, there was no significant difference between patients with positive for p53 and negative for p53 in the elderly group (44% vs 39%), on the other hand, there was a significant difference between patients with positive for p53 and negative for p53 in the control group (70% vs 48%). Regarding prognosis, there was no significant difference between patients with positive for p53 and negative for p53 in the elderly group (73.3% vs 72%), on the other hand, there was a significant difference between patients with positive for p53 and negative for p53 in the control group (51.2% vs 68.7%). These results suggest that the significance of p53 overexpression was negligible in elderly patients with colorectal cancer. |
