| Abstract: | Behavioral and psychological problems associated with physical diseases can be most effectively and efficiently cared for by health psychologists/clinical psychologists who specialize in the care of such problems and who practice as independent professionals sharing responsibility for patient care with physicians treating the disease itself. If the optimum care of independent health psychology practice is to be realized, however, there must exist well-defined spheres of responsibility for each profession. The present article suggests 9 area divisions of responsibility (e.g., medication overuse, malingering, and noncompliance) in caring for asthmatics.
