Numerical Estimation of Plastic J-Integral by the Load Separation Method for Inclined Cracks Under Tension

Abstract:The load separation concept is employed to determine the mixed mode plastic η pl and hCODpl{eta^{COD}_{pl}} factors for the tension plate with an inclined centre throughthickness crack for power law hardening materials. The separation parameters S ij are calculated from the FE computed load – plastic displacement (or COD) curves for each case. It is shown that the mixed mode plastic η pl factor is a function of both the crack angle orientation θ (or the applied elastic parameter M e ) and the strain hardening exponent.
