Abstract: | Conclusions The above considerations have shown that when the real requirements to blanket design are taken into account, a production of 1.4–1.8 tons of plutonium nuclei per fusion event can be expected in a blanket in which metallic uranium fuel is employed. Accordingly, in a reactor with a fusion power of 500 MW, 2.5–3 tons of plutonium can be produced per calendar year; when the total thermal power of the reactor is 2.5–3 GW at the beginning of the operational period, the breeding amounts to 1 kg/(MW·yr).Translated from Atomnaya Énergiya, Vol. 57, No. 1, pp. 36–41, July, 1984. |
