New perspectives on emergency management on tall buildings in Italy

The purpose of this paper is to contribute in the development of safety in tall buildings to be used as offices. It illustrates with reference to a real case in Italy, the construction and structural characteristics of the building and the procedures adopted for managing emergencies. In particular, it outlines the Italian normative aspects concerning tall buildings in the framework of their application, especially of those to be used as offices. The Pirelli skyscraper accident has brought about a deep reflection and the need for a reconsideration of the whole safety, prevention and protection system with particular reference to terrorist attacks or hardly predictable with the traditional procedures adopted for the protection and defence of buildings' occupants. Investments are foreseen in the near future to finance researches and studies about the possible scenarios related to safety in tall buildings.
