The spatial organization of the cortical and subcortical afferent projections of the neostriatum in the dog
Authors:OG Chivileva  AI Gorbachevskaia
Abstract:Organization of cortical, nigral, tegmental and amygdaloid projections of caudate nucleus and putamen were studied in 24 dogs using the method based on retrograde axonal transport of horseradish peroxidase. Ventral "limbic" and dorsal "motor" areas as well as segments where terminal areas of projection fibres of different functional zones neurons coincide were distinguished in striate nuclei. The data obtained fill in the existing gap in the knowledge concerning this item in the evolutional series of animals and contribute to the conception of anatomical substrate for mechanisms of striatum functioning in the given animal, thus adding to the knowledge on anatomical grounds of functional heterogeneity of nuclei of striatum and interaction of functionally different systems in them.
