| Abstract: | Strong's estimated chance score ranges on the SVIB scales are compared with the chance variance for most of the scales, computed from the assumption of zero item intercorrelations (obtained when the blank is filled out in all possible ways). "Most of the differences are small, and the positive and negative errors of estimate are about equally divided. The greatest difference is in the Aviator scale, where Strong's estimate is about 1.4 standard score points too high. This difference is significant at the 1% level as judged by the F test.
