Study on Controlling Town Land Sprawl in Foreign Countries

Taking England and American as examples,the paper analyzes the motive and measures to controlthe urban sprawl in foreign countries. The motive tocontrol urban sprawl in foreign countries mainly con-sists of five aspects, including reducing the traffic jam,lowering the pollution of environment, protecting thesuburban farmland, protecting the current life style incommunity and keeping the urban center area from con-tinuing to decay. The main measures to control urbansprawl in foreign countries include eight aspects: thesystems of town planning, the policy of farmland zoning,the systems of development license, the plan of landsupply, public participation, tax policy, public capi-tal investment and transfer of development right.
