Abstract:This publication focuses on investigations to produce steel-ceramic-composites with lower density but equal or higher stiffness than steel. The maximum content of the ceramic phase was aimed at 20 vol.-% of nearly globular shaped particles with a mean diameter less than 10 µm. Samples were produced on laboratory scale by use of a modified powder-metallurgical concept. The particle dispersion was estimated depending on addition of different alloy elements. The wettability and the thermodynamic stability between the matrix and the ceramic phase show a clear influence on the formation of the composite.
