Abstract: | We examined the adsorption of aqueous erythromycin (EM) to the macroporous resin Sepabead SP825 in a series of batch experiments. The equilibrium data were well described by a Langmuir isotherm. The free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of adsorption were calculated, and a film and pore diffusion model was used to simulate the mass transfer mechanism, taking into account diffusion across the liquid film surrounding individual particles and diffusion within the resin particle. The model predictions were consistent with the experimental data and consequently were used to determine the mass transfer coefficients. |
