Effect of Waste Brick Powder on Strength and Drying Shrinkage of Concrete

The effect of waste brick powder with different proportion and fineness on slumps,strengths and drying shrinkage were investigated and the scanning electron microscopy was also used to analyze the microstructure.The results indicate that the slumps,early strengths and drying shrinkage of concrete was reduced by the utilization of waste brick powder,and a further reduction would go on with the increase of the waste brick powder contents.However,when the content of waste brick powder is less than 10%within specific surface area of 554 m2/kg,the later strength of concrete is remarkably increased because the waste brick powder obviously increases the compactness of concrete and improves the interface structure between aggregates and cement paste matrix.The strength is increased and drying shrinkage is reduced.
