PENETRATION OF SODIUM INTOCATHODE CARBON BLOCKS DURING ALUMINIUM ELECTROLYSIS

The cathodic carbon samples which were made by electricalbaking at high pressure were tested for sodium penetration.The mechanism of penetration ofsodium into cathode carbon blocks during aluminium elecrolysis was discussed.The resultsindicate that the penetration of sodium will increase with increasing of the moleculeratio of electrolyte and current density.The sodium penetration takes place in both waysof pore penetration and crystal lattice diffusion.
