Abstract:The stable resole emulsion was synthesized, of which the stability, the solid content and the rate of polymerization increased with the increasing of the amount of emulsifier, whereas the gelation time and the fluidity of the phenolic resin from the emulsion decreased. The clutch lining with the phenolic emulsion as the matrix (binder) was prepared by way of wet process. The properties including friction coefficient, wear rate, bending strength, impact resistance, Rockwell hardness and density of the clutch lining were determined. The clutch lining possesses good impact resistance, low Rockwell hardness and low density. The experimental results indicate that the resole emulsion can be used for wet process frictional materials.
