The Dynamics of Urban Spatial Structure's Evolution

Urban spatial structure is the spatial reflection of all kinds of socio-economic activities in the urban area. In the past, a majority of researches discussed the spatial patterns of urban form. This paper argues that the current research should consider the relationship between the behaviors of leading actors of urban development and the spatial results of the above behaviors. From this perspective, it analyzes the dynamics of urban spatial structure's evolution. After introducing the tendency of urban spatial structure by using human geography and urban planning's theories, the paper studies the dynamics of urban spatial structure from the hierarchy model of behavior actors,organization progress.impetuses and restricting factors and outlines the development track of urban spatial structure based on the impetuses' flux of five forces which affect the urban spatial structure. Finally, the author discusses the new trends of urban spatial structure in globalization background.
