A note on the steady state downtime distribution of a monotone system

In this note we study the steady state downtime distribution of a monotone system comprising independent components. An exact formula exists for parallel system, but approximations have to be used for other type of systems. Results from Monte Carlo simulations are presented to illustrate the error term by estimating the distribution of the ith downtime of the system by the steady state down time distribution.
