Research and Application of Reversible and Selective Pass Mechanical Locator

Downhole locator is the key tool for well completion operations,and its positioning accuracy directly affects the success or failure of the overall operation.Aiming at the shortcoming of the existing downhole locator that it is easy to fail after repeated positioning,a mechanical locator that can be reversed and selectively pass the collar has been developed.Through the theoretical analysis and calculation of the key components of the mechanical locator,the maximum stress of the working cylinder is 408 MPa when the locator passes the positioning collar.When the positioning load is 200 kN,the maximum stress of the working cylinder is 470 MPa,and the strength is satisfied.The indoor functional test shows the locator encounters a resistance load of about 20 kN when passing the positioning collar.The positioning load of 250 kN is encountered when pressed down.There is no deformation or wear failure after repeated reversing,positioning,and circulating tests,verifying the positioning work barrel and the reversing mechanism design is reasonable,and the comprehensive performance meets the design requirements.The successful application of this tool in a five-layer sand control operation on site shows that the mechanical locator has stable and reliable performance during repeated positioning operations,and has a high promotion and application value.
