Abstract: | This study evaluates the influence of loading, detention time and temperature on the first order BOD removal coefficient K1. Numerical values of K1 are derived from semi-continuous-flow laboratory units of sewage ponds and introduced into the design formula for a multi-stage continuous flow reactor. There was a good correspondence (r = 0.92) between the computed BOD removal rates and the empirical results obtained from three large-scale multi-stage pond systems. |
