Abstract: | High-amplitude nonlinear surface acoustic waves (SAWs) generated by laser pulses were observed in polycrystalline material (stainless steel), and the nonlinear acoustic parameters were evaluated. The velocities of bulk waves and the elastic moduli of the second order were determined by detecting the surface perturbations produced by longitudinal and shear bulk waves (precursors). Consequently, a consistent set of elastic and acoustic constants was obtained by performing all necessary measurements with the same sample using laser excitation and detection techniques. |
