Abstract:Recent development of supported ceramic (asymme tric) composite membranes is reviewed Membranes are classified into five kinds according to the microstructure and phase nature of the layers: (1) asymmetric membranes with single inorganic phase layer, (2) asymmetric membranes with inorganic composite phase layer, (3) asymmetric membranes with organic phase layer, (4) asymmetric membranes with organic/inorganic mixing phase layer, (5) asymmetric membranes with organic inorganic hybrid layer Based on our classification, every kind of composite membranes is addressed with particular emphasis on the organic inorganic hybrid membranes
