Determination of Perfluorooctanoic Acid(PFOA)and its Salts in the Food Packaging Materials by UPLC/MS/MS

Abstract:A method based on ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC/MS/MS) with accelerated solvent extraction(ASE) was studied for quantitative detection of perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA) and its salts in the food packaging materials.PFOA residue was extracted from the food packaging materials by UPLC using methanol/water as the mobile phase.PFOA was detective using electrospray ionization(ESI) on a tandem mass spectrometer in multiple reactions monitoring mode.Qualitative analysis of PFOA could be performed using the relative abundance of two daughter ions of PFOA,and quantitative analysis was conducted with the external standard method.The linear calibration curve was obtained in the range of 0.01~1.00μg/mL with a linear correlation coefficient(R2) of 0.999996.The recoveries for PFOA were 89.5 %~100.8% with relative standard deviations of 1.7%~3.2%.And the detection limit for PFOA was 0.1 μg/m2(S/N≥3).
