Abstract: | Describes the history of the American Psychological Association (APA) peer review of psychological services provided under the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS), the operational details of the system, and some of the criticisms of the project. Research is summarized that examined the characteristics of peer reviewers, the effects of the theoretical orientation of the reviewer, and the effects of documented treatment progress. Implications for care providers, patients, and the profession are discussed. (18 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) |
