A self-balancing crane |

| Abstract: | A simple mechanism is described which has the effect that an automatic displacement of a counterweight very nearly cancels the overturning moment caused by the load. This mechanism is then adapted to a hammerhead crane with movable trolley. An exact static analysis is given, variants are discussed and historical references made. |
