Quality Control over Concrete Cut-Off Wall in Maopingxi Dam

The construction of the concrete cut-off wall in the Maopingxi embankment dam, near by the Three Gorges Project, is characterized by its complicated construction procedures, tight time schedule, much more difficulties in field operation, and high quality requirement. The concrete cut-off wall has a maximum design height of 45 m and a total walling area of 31 900 m 2. The supervision staff took dynamic control measures, giving first priority to the pre- and under-construction control, and secondly to the post-construction examination and control. All-round tracing and by-job-site supervision over the key processes during the whole construction effectively controlled the construction quality.
