An overview of reactor containment structures

The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of reactor containment structures and to summarize the present state-of-the-art of containment design. The areas covered are types of containments used for nuclear power plants in operation and under construction, and their development. Also presented are codes which currently govern the design, materials, and construction of containments, as well as some thoughts on safety and methods of analysis.
