Technical communication in psychology: A statement of the problem.
Abstract:The "needs of scientific psychology for communication may be categorized into four classes: need for rapid communication of what and how, need for direct discussion and comparison of ideas and findings, need for adequate and efficient archival storage, and need for integrated retrieval of information… . Certainly, the psychologist today cannot read all of the principal journals and books in psychology, and it is an uncommon specialist who reads all of the literature in his area of specialization." The present indexing system is not adequate. "BSA considers the problem of efficient and effective communication of scientific information to be perhaps the most critical problem faced by scientific psychology today." Factors responsible for the crisis are suggested. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
