Abstract: | The author describes the use of commercial TV programs as laboratory assignments for introducing students to techniques of objective recording of behavior and collecting anecdotal and case materials, and to applications of concepts of motivation to complex behavior in life situations. In developmental psychology classes, almost any standard lab observation assignment can be used. In the fields of mental health and "life adjustment" oriented general psychology, the use of TV program analysis seems to provide a way of bringing the theoretical text and lecture concepts down to a functional level.
