Long Tunnel Construction in West-Line Project of South-North Water Transfer

The tunnel in the West Line Project of the South North Water Transfer is of high altitude, large diameter, long distance, and deep covered characteristics. The tunnel construction technique plays an important role in the implementation of the West Line Project. In consideration of the tunnel characteristics and geologic conditions, the tunnel construction methods are primarily studied. It is suggested that the tunnel should be constructed by TBM;the auxiliary galleries arranged according to the landform and TBM performance; belt conveyers selected for mucking transportation; and the mixing ventilation facilities adopted for tunnel air exchange.
