Evaluation of flavored granules in electrical heated cigarette filters based on static headspace GC/MS method

Abstract:  Objective  This study aims to establish an evaluation method for the quality of flavored granules in electrical heated cigarette filters based on static headspace GC/MS method.   Methods   The release characteristics of twelve kinds of flavor components in four kinds of flavored granules under the different temperatures were determined by static headspace GC/MS method. The flavor components delivery in mainstream smoke of electrical heated cigarettes added with four kinds of flavored granules were determined by CH2Cl2 and GC/MS method, respectively.   Results  The results showed that the release patterns of ten kinds of flavor components in flavored granules by static headspace GC/MS method were consistent with that in the mainstream smoke. In addition, the release patterns of citronellol and heptanoic acid in flavored granules under static headspace at 60℃~120℃ were consistent with that in mainstream smoke. The flavored granule that was more applicable for electrical heating cigarette was selected by static headspace GC/MS method, and the selected flavored granule was consistent with the selected one by detecting the flavor components in mainstream smoke.   Conclusion   Within the actual temperature range of electrical heated cigarette cooling section, flavored granules could be evaluated by investigating the release pattern of flavor components delivery based on static headspace GC/MS method so as to realize the rapid quality evaluation of flavored granules in electrical heating cigarette filters.
