| Abstract: | Shape anisotropy, or the demagnetising effect, limits the sensitivity achievable with optical fibre magnetometers. The optimum sensor geometry has the minimum cross-section compatible with efficient strain transfer. For a sensor head with multiple passes of magnetically sensitised fibre, there is a limit to the increase in sensitivity as the number of passes is increased. |
