Striving for construction of Project and reform of Corporation

Since the commencement for 9 years, a remarkable progress has been made in the construction of theThree Gorges project with a high quality and within the estimate approved by the state. By the end of 200l, a total investment of RMB 73.1 bn was spent on the Project, of which RMB 29.0 bn on removal and displacement in the reservoir area, RMB 8.9 bn for interests of loans and repayment of capital. The years 2002 and 2003 will be the key years whether the construction of the Three Gorges project can reach the second-phase targets, the initial impoundment of the reservoir up to elevation l35 m, the first 4 units can be put into operation and the five-step double way shiplock canbe put into service on schedule. And also the year 2002 will be an important year during which the Corporation will bereorganized according to the modern corporate system including clearly identified property rights, well-defined powerand responsibility and separation of administrative and enterprise functions. The CTGPC will run finally in the interna-tional capital market and become a main investment body authorized by the Chinese government.
