Abstract:Recommendations for a Minimum Reinforcement of Shear‐Loaded Joints A Mechanical Model and Derivations for the Structural Design Composite constructions consisting of a precast R/C unit and insitu concrete as well as R/C bearing structures subsequently completed by an in‐situ concrete topping are marked by the frictional interaction of concrete interfaces with different age and different strength. To avoid a sudden shearing or opening of the joint interfaces in case of working loads, a minimum reinforcement is necessary. International standards contain varying or rather no specific rules for the determination of such a minimum reinforcement. In this article a mechanical model for the determination of a minimum reinforcing ratio in shear‐loaded joints will be derived. Based on this plastic formulation the recommended minimum reinforcing ratio for bond joints will be calculate dependent on joint roughness and material coefficients and also tabulate for frequently used steel qualities and concrete strength grades. Often this minimum reinforcement is sufficient. Then follow recommendations for the simplification of joint dimensioning.
