Abstract:Study on the propagation of meteorological drought to hydrological drought and its influence mech- anism under the changing environment is helpful to reveal the formation process and mechanism of hydrolog- ical drought,so as to establish the hydrological drought early warning based on meteorological drought. How- ever, the dynamic changes and driving factors of the propagation of meteorological to hydrological drought in different seasons have not yet been revealed. In view of this,the Wuding River,Kuye River and Qinhe River basins were selected as the research area in this study, standardized precipitation index (SPI) and standardized runoff index (SRI) were adopted to characterize meteorological drought and hydrological drought, respectively, and the temporal characteristics of meteorological and hydrological drought were ana- lyzed. Then,the propagation time of meteorological to hydrological drought and its dynamics in different sea- sons were explored. Furthermore,to explore the main factors and physical mechanism affecting the propaga- tion of drought in different seasons. The results show that:(1) meteorological and hydrological droughts tend to aggravate, and the response time of hydrological drought to meteorological drought has hysteresis; (2) except for the Kuye River basin, the overall drought propagation tends to be faster in different sea- sons, indicating that the speed of water cycle in these areas is faster;(3) the accelerated propagation time of the Wuding River and Qinhe River basins may be related to the increasing precipitation and temper- ature, whilst, the slow propagation time may be related to coal mining and reservoir construction in the Kuye River basin.
