Discussion on the Heritage Value of the Family Academy in Minnan under the Perspective of Spatial Heritage: Taking Bixitang in Yongchun, Quanzhou as an Example

As a preeminent architect among the first generation of modernists in China, and a pioneer in researching western modern architecture and traditional Chinese gardening with modern method, TUNG Chuin has led a life which witnessed the rise and development of Chinese modern architecture. This paper takes cosmopolitanism and individualism as important clues, presents the unique professional career and academic achievements of TUNG Chuin, thus expounds how he faced the spread of modern western civilization with open mind, while sticking to the inherent traditional culture with humanistic spirit, so as to propose an architectural vision based on the cultural perspective, and internalize the tension between the world and the local, the universal and the unique.
