Mies and the Figuring of Absence

This article introduces the background for Illinois Institute of Technology （IIT） Student Center competition, and regards it as the main example to elaborate the author Peter Eisenman＂ interesting in Mies＇s the permeability of the concepts of figure and ground, and the evolution of his column section. In a sense, the article is the author＇ s exploration of Mies＇s liT project radical feature, at the same time, it points out the important history sense of this project by the comparison of projects practice and theoretical analysis.
