Abstract: | A `near-instantaneous? digital compandor for the transmission of high-quality sound signals is described that reduces the bit rate from 416 kbit/s to about 322 kbit/s per channel without noticeable impairment of the sound quality. Hence six audio channels can be multiplexed to form a 2.048 Mbit/s stream including frame synchronisation and transmission error-protection facilities. |
