| Abstract: | The hardness of zirconia-alumina laminar composites has been measured over contact size scales ranging from much smaller to much larger than the layer thicknesses. The results correlate with a weighted average of the hardnesses of the two layer constituents based on the volume of the plastic zone; and they deviate significantly from a similar average based on the contact area. |
