Abstract: | A linear thin shell theory of the lowest order second approximation is formulated in the case of the application of normal surface loads. A set of intrinsic equations are presented in terms of three stress resultants and three changes of curvature, where the 3-dimensional effect is shown to be necessary. A comparison is made with the refined interior equations derived by John. |
