Abstract:
Belt drive behavior is investigated theoretically to determine the effect of (1) belt velocity on normal and tangential belt forces and (2) centrifugal forces on belt tension. The tangential belt force is found to increase with belt velocity for positive λ and decrease with negative λ. The active angles and the distribution of normal pressure forces change to balance the applied torque load.
