Abstract:The influence of chloride concentration on metastable pitting of 304 stainless steel in a simulated concrete pore solution(pH 12.6) was investigated via potentiodynamic polarization and potentiostatic polarization measurement.The peak current density(Ipeak), metastable pit radius(rpit), pit stability product(lpeak·rpit),and growth time(tgrow), as well as the repassivation time(trep),growth rate(Kgrow) and repassivation rate(Krep) of individual metastable pits were studied by means of the extreme value statistics distribution method.The results revealed that the probability of transition from metastable pitting to stable pitting for 304 stainless steel might increase with the increasing chloride concentration in the simulated concrete pore solution.
