KENYAN BARLEYS FROM 1982/83 CROP AND WATER SENSITIVITY

Abstract:The Kenyan Barleys from 1982/83 harvest were considered to be highly water sensitive. The results obtained suggest that the barleys were highly water sensitive because of the surface activity of mixed populations of micro-organisms in presence of excess water. As a result of the metabolic activities of the micro-organisms on the surface of the grains the entry of oxygen into the grains was impeded
