Synthesis of monocarboxylic polyoxyethylenes

Summary The various methods of synthesis which can be used to prepare -carboxy polyoxyethylenes are reviewed. The synthesis and the purification of -methoxy -carboxy polyoxyethylenes ( ) are reported. The process consists of the reaction of halogenoacetic acids with an -methoxy -sodium hydroxylate polyoxyethylene followed by a purification by extraction. ,-dimethoxy and -methoxy -ethyl carboxylate polyoxyethylenes were synthesized.
