Abstract: | 35 symptom formations were isolated through an analysis of the case histories of 793 psychiatric patients with functional disorders. Percentage of patients in 1 of 4 groups (manic-depressive, schizophrenic, psychoneurotic, character disorder) characterized by each symptom was tabulated. The results indicated that there are no particular symptoms which are specific to 1 of the 4 psychiatric groupings, and that these groupings are not described by any unique clustering of symptoms. A symptom classification system (by Phillips & Rabinovitch, 1958) was seen to have a positive, though small, statistical relationship with psychiatric grouping. From Psyc Abstracts 36:04:4HI69Z.
