Highly filled particulate composites enhancement of performances by using compound coupling agents

Abstract:The compressive and bending strength of epoxy and unsaturated polyester resins composites containing high volume of particulate silicas have been studied. Different coupling agents were tested, whose formulation was tailored to allow the creation of chemical bonding between filler and matrix. Fracture surfaces were analysed by scanning electron microscopy, and a qualitative correlation was found between increasing strength and interfacial adhesion.
